VAN BUREN
" A great place to live, work and play."
Van Buren Township was created out of Huron Township on April 6, 1835.
Van Buren was named after the eighth president of the United States. In 1875 the first township hall was built. It currently is the home of the Belleville museum. In 1926, Van Buren Township underwent its most remarkable transformation when the electrical dam built at French Landing by Detroit Edison changed the narrow Huron River into a 7-mile long lake. At this time, the community became something of a resort area as city dwellers from miles around came to swim, fish, and build summer cottages on the beautiful lake shore.
Van Buren Township rests with beautiful Belleville Lake and the spacious 101 acre Van Buren Park. The Lower Huron/Clinton Metropark, also located in Van Buren Township, contains 1,200 acres of land preserving the natural beauty of the area while providing for both active and passive recreational opportunities
The current population in Van Buren is over 24, 000 and is growing rapidly with all the new construction and
business.
Single-family home construction has been a booming industry allowing newcomers a wide array of homes from which to choose. There are currently more than 800 single-family homes or homes sites, in a wide range of prices either under development or in the approval process.
There are a number of fine neighborhoods concentrated in the Belleville Lake area opening up endless recreational opportunities for residents, while an equal number of housing opportunities are available along the frontages of unpaved roads in rural areas of the township.
The closeness of Van Buren Township to the Ann Arbor and suburban Detroit areas and to regional employment centers has contributed to the high demand for locating here. It is located close to I-94 and I-275, with easy access to Detroit Metro Airport.
